How To Add Retinol Into Your Regimen

How To Add Retinol Into Your Regimen

So, you want the glow. The smooth, plump, “I drink four litres of water a day and take sea moss” kind of skin. And Retinol? It is the gold standard for anti-ageing, fine lines, uneven skin texture, and all-around skin fabulousness.

But if you’ve got sensitive skin, or just like to play it safe, you’ll want to ease it in gently. No rush, no peeling face disasters, just happy, healthy skin that will yield results within 12 weeks.

Our new Retinol Anti-Ageing Active Serum is designed with sensitive and reactive skin in mind, so you can reap all the benefits without the drama. Here's how to introduce it into your routine seamlessly like a pro:

Step 1: Start Slow (Less Is More)

Retinol isn't a sprint; this ingredient is a slow and steady marathon.

  • Begin with once a week and see how your skin reacts. We recommend starting with a pea-sized amount each for your face and neck.
  • If everything’s peachy after a couple of weeks, bump it up to twice a week, and then three times. This approach will reduce the risk of any irritation and allow your skin to build its tolerance.
  • Don’t rush it by applying this serum every night - your skin will thank you for gradually adding it to your skincare routine.

Step 2: Keep It Simple

When you’re using Retinol, keep your routine simple.

  • Pair Retinol with a gentle cleanser and a hydrating moisturiser to keep your skin barrier happy. We recommend our Creamy Hydrating or Gentle Foaming Face Cleansers. A hydrating and nourishing moisturiser like our Ultra Hydrating Face Cream will lock in moisture to reduce dryness.
  • Avoid strong actives and exfoliants (like AHAs, BHAs, Peptides, and scrubs) on Retinol nights. Your skin isn’t into that kind of multitasking. Your other actives? They’re still invited - just save them for every other night off from Retinol.

Step 3: Save Retinol For Nights Only

Retinol and the sun? Not the best of friends.

  • Always apply your retinol serum at night, after cleansing and on dry skin.
  • Let your Retinol absorb for a few minutes, then follow with a nourishing moisturiser.

Step 4: SPF Is Non-Negotiable!

We'll say it louder for the people at the back - always wear SPF!

  • Retinol can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so don't skimp on the sunscreen.
  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF every morning - rain, hail or shine (your future self will high-five you). Remember to apply down your neck and over the décolletage too.

Step 5: Patience Is A Virtue

Results take time, but it's worth it.

  • You should start noticing smoother, glowier skin within 8-12 weeks. The key? Consistency. Stick with your routine, and you will discover why Retinol earns the title of skincare superstar.

Extra Tips For Retinol

  • If your skin is extremely sensitive and easily irritated, apply a light moisturiser before you apply Retinol to create a barrier.
  • If your skin is feeling dry, flaky, or irritated, take a break for a few days.
  • Retinol is only for adults and those not pregnant or breastfeeding.

Why Is MooGoo's Retinol Different?

Traditional Retinol serums can be a bit much for sensitive skin, but we’ve taken a gentler approach. Our 0.2% Retinol uses slow-release technology, so it works its magic gradually without overwhelming your skin. It’s like the difference between a double espresso and a cappuccino - both get the job done, but one’s way smoother.

Ready to give it a go? Add our Slow-Release Retinol to your night-time routine for skin that feels as good as it looks!
