Ask the Herd Anything!
We’re here, lets chatPowerful yet gentle, this serum is clinically proven to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and pigmentation while improving skin tone, texture, elasticity, and radiance. Our 0.2% Encapsulated Retinol uses slow-release technology to preserve its potency and gradually penetrate the skin, minimising irritation while delivering impressive results. Ingredients like Jojoba Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Phospholipids and Glycolipids work alongside Retinol to hydrate, nourish and strengthen the skin barrier.
But why did we create a Retinol? Simple. We wanted to offer a cleaner, effective and affordable Retinol that overcomes common issues like irritation and instability. Staying true to our MooGoo philosophy, we crafted a smarter Retinol serum that’s kind to both your skin and your wallet:
1. Stability in a bottle: Retinol can be a bit of a diva - it’s notoriously unstable. To solve this, we encapsulated ours in a natural liposome, protecting it from breaking down and ensuring it’s ready to work hard for your skin.
2. Gentler on skin: No one likes a fiery reaction! Our medium-strength Retinol uses slow-release technology to deliver its benefits gradually, reducing the risk of irritation.
3. Targeted delivery: We use a clever carrier ingredient called Cyclodextrin (it’s often used in topical medicines!) to ensure Retinol reaches the layers of your skin where it’s needed most.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The results below reflect the typical progression of 0.2% Retinol efficiacy over a 12-week period in clinical studies.
Wrinkle Reduction Over Time: Shows a steady improvement, reaching up to 40% reduction by week 12. Farris, P. K., & Reynolds, J. R. (2014). Topical retinoids and the treatment of photoaging. Dermatologic Therapy, 27(6), 453–464.
Texture Smoothness Over Time: Demonstrates significant enhancement in skin texture, improving up to 60% by week 12. Griffiths, C. E. M., Kang, S., Ellis, C. N., & Voorhees, J. J. (1995). Treatment of photoaged skin with topical tretinoin. New England Journal of Medicine, 333(12), 816–820.
Hyperpigmentation Improvement Over Time: Highlights reduction in pigmentation issues, with a 50% improvement by week. Kafi, R., Kwak, H. S., Schumacher, W. E., Cho, S., Hanft, V. N., Hamilton, T. A., & Voorhees, J. J. (2007). Improvement of naturally aged skin with vitamin A (retinol). Archives of Dermatology, 143(5), 606–612. Zasada, M., Budzisz, E., & Rotsztejn, H. (2019). Retinoids: Active molecules influencing skin structure formation in cosmetic and dermatological treatments. Advances in Dermatology and Allergology, 36(4), 392–397.

Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens and Phenoxyethanol.
We show all of the ingredients we use in our products on our website, not just the pretty ones. That way you know exactly what's in each one, and can get in touch if you have any more questions.
Please be aware that the ingredients we use in our formulas may be updated occasionally and therefore vary from time to time. Please refer to the ingredient list on the product packaging for the most up-to-date and relevant list of ingredients.
What is Retinol and what does it do?
Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that helps improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and promote a more even skin tone by increasing cell turnover and boosting collagen production.
MooGoo's Retinol Anti-Ageing Serum delivers the same powerful results as other brands, but with a difference. Thanks to its gentle slow-release technology, it helps minimise common side effects like irritation, redness, and flaking. As with all MooGoo products, our formula is free from all the nasties found in conventional serums.
How do I use MooGoo’s 0.2% Slow-release Retinol?
After cleansing, apply a pea-sized amount to dry skin at night, avoiding the eye area. Allow the serum to absorb into the skin for a few minutes, before following on with a moisturiser to lock in hydration.
Start using it 1-2 times a week for 2-4 weeks, then every other night (to allow your skin to build tolerance). Ensure SPF is worn daily. Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What percentage of Retinol do you use?
We use a medium-strength Retinol of 0.2%, which makes our formula sensitive skin friendly.
Do I need to wear sunscreen with Retinol?
Absoloutely! Retinol will make your skin more sensitive to the sun, increasing risks of burning. Always apply a broad-spectrum SPF during the day to protect your skin.
Should I use Retinol or Bakuchiol?
Bakuchiol is a plant-derived compound often touted as a natural alternative to Retinoids, particularly Retinol. It is a natural alternative to Retinol as Bakuchiol is not a form of Vitamin A. This is great for people with very sensitive skin.
Studies have shown that Bakuchiol can provide comparable results to Retinol, however, the results may take longer to appear compared to Retinoids. So wanting something quicker acting? Retinol is for you. It's all down to personal preference.
Can I use Retinol while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No, Retinol should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. To get effective results without Retinol, we recommend our Bakuchiol Serum, a natural alterntive to Retinol.
When will I see results?
Skin improvements are often noticeable after 8-12 weeks of consistent use, with smoother skin and a brighter complexion being early signs.
Can I add Retinol to my morning routine?
Nope! Retinol should be saved for your nighttime routine only.
When should I not use Retinol?
Press pause on Retinol (and other strong actives) when:
My skin reacts to regular Retinol. Will MooGoo’s Retinol irritate my skin?
Our slow-release formula is designed to be gentle, but some people may experience mild dryness or redness initially. Start slow and pair it with our nourishing moisturisers to keep skin calm. We recommend following with our Ultra Hydrating Face Cream or the Soothing MSM Moisturiser.
Can I use MooGoo’s Retinol if I have sensitive skin?
Yes, our formula is gentle enough for sensitive skin, but we always recommend patch-testing first and introducing it slowly to your routine.
Can my skin get worse before it gets better?
Some users may experience "purging" as Retinol speeds up cell turnover, bringing blemishes to the surface. This is temporary and usually subsides after a few weeks.
Is Retinol safe for children, tweens or teens?
No - Retinol is recomended for adults only.
Can I use Retinol around the eye area?
To avoid irritation and dry eye, we recommend not using Retinol around the orbital eye area.
Can I use Retinol with other active ingredients?
It’s best to avoid mixing our Retinol with any products containing Benzoyl Prroxide, Vitamin C, AHAs/BHAs, other Retinol's, physical exfoliants or strong Peptides. With this in mind, we recommend steering clear of the following products directly after Retinol application in the same night:
What can I pair with Retinol?
While we don't recommend pairing Retinol with the above ingredients and products, we love to dual up on the below ingredients.
This makes our Retinol perfect to pair with the SPF 15 Moisturising Day Cream, Ultra Hydrating Face Cream, Anti-Ageing Face Cream (during the morning routine only), 100% Rosehip Oil, and Hyaluronic Acid & Niacinamide Serum.
Can I use Retinol while on skin medications?
We don't recommend using Retinol if you are on skin medications. Please consult with your Doctor or Dermatologist regarding this.
Is Retinol suitable for acne-prone skin?
Yes, it can help unclog pores, smooth the skin's surface by removing dead skin cells, reduce texture, and improve pigmentation. Introduce Retinol gradually to minimise irritation and pair it with a calming moisturiser like our Blemish Cleansing Moisturiser, Ultra Hydrating Face Cream or Soothing MSM Moisturiser.
What makes MooGoo’s Retinol different?
Our formula uses a gentle slow-release system to deliver all the benefits of Retinol while being kinder to your skin, reducing the risk of irritation. The slow-release technology also allows for a more sustained anti-ageing effect.
How should I store my Retinol?
Store it in a cool, dark place to maintain its effectiveness. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat and always pop the lid back on after use.
Does Retinol expire?
Yes, like all skincare, it has a shelf life. Check the packaging for the expiry date and replace it if the colour or smell changes.
Is this product Soy free?
No - our Retinol Serum contains ingredients derived from Soy.
Is this product Nut Oil and Vegan?
Yes - our formula is free from Nut Oils and is Vegan.
