Moothpaste Just Got An Upgrade: Double The Hydroxyapatite, Plus Theobromine!
Key Takeaways:
- Double The Hydroxyapatite: Our 5% formula works, but so many of you asked for 10% that we listened. Our Fluoride-Free Moothpaste now contains 10% Hydroxyapatite.
- Hello, Theobromine: We've added Theobromine, a naturally occurring compound found in cacao, which is being studied for its role in supporting enamel.
- Same Gentle Formula: Still Fluoride-free, SLS-free and Glycerin-free, with Xylitol and edible-grade ingredients, across Peppermint, Sensitive and Watermelon & Mint.
We've been making Fluoride-Free Moothpaste with Hydroxyapatite for years now (Australia's first, not that we're counting... okay, maybe a little 😉). And while we've always been proud of it, one question kept popping up in our inbox: how much Hydroxyapatite is actually in there?
It's a fair question. When you're choosing a toothpaste without Fluoride, you want to know the ingredient doing the heavy lifting is there in a meaningful amount. Our 5% formula has been doing a great job, and the research backs Hydroxyapatite at that level. But one request kept popping up in our inbox, our reviews and our DMs: could you make it 10%?
You asked, and we listened. We went back to the lab (and the brushing board) to see if we could double the Hydroxyapatite without losing the gentle, smooth paste you know and love.
The result? We've upgraded our Moothpaste from 5% to 10% Hydroxyapatite, and welcomed a brand-new ingredient to the Herd: Theobromine. This blog explains what's changed, why we changed it and what it means for your daily brush.
Why We Doubled The Hydroxyapatite (5% to 10%)
A Quick Refresher: What Is Hydroxyapatite?
Hydroxyapatite (HA) is the same mineral your tooth enamel is mostly made of, around 97% to be exact! Because your body already recognises it, it's one of the most researched Fluoride-free alternatives for supporting remineralisation, which is the process of restoring minerals to enamel so it stays strong and resilient.1
Every time you eat, the pH in your mouth drops and teeth temporarily lose minerals. Saliva helps put them back, and a remineralising toothpaste gives that process a helping hand twice a day. HA particles can settle into tiny scratches and weak spots on the enamel surface, which also helps teeth look smoother and brighter over time.2
We use Vegan, micro-sized Hydroxyapatite in our Original Peppermint and Watermelon & Mint. The Sensitive Moothpaste is made with nano-sized Hydroxyapatite. Both are Fluoride-free alternatives, so you don't need to worry about little ones swallowing a bit while they learn to spit.3
Why 10%?
Let's be clear: 5% Hydroxyapatite works. Studies have shown Hydroxyapatite toothpaste at this level supports remineralisation and our 5% Moothpaste has kept the Herd smiling for years.
So why change it? Because you asked.
Over the years, many of you told us you'd love a 10% option, often after reading about it in the research. Higher-concentration formulas have been studied too, including an 18-month clinical trial in adults where a 10% HA toothpaste performed comparably to a Fluoride toothpaste for preventing new tooth decay.4 A separate study found a 10% HA toothpaste was comparable to a children's Fluoride toothpaste for remineralising early enamel lesions.5
We love hearing from our customers, and when this many of you ask for the same thing, we listen. So we doubled it.
Tooth be told, it wasn't as simple as tipping in more powder. Hydroxyapatite is a mineral, and doubling it changes how a paste feels and flows. Getting a 10% formula that still squeezes, foams and rinses the way you love took a lot of samples (and a lot of brushing)!
Meet Theobromine: The New Kid On The Brush

What Is Theobromine?
Theobromine is a naturally occurring compound found in Cacao beans (yes, the same plant chocolate comes from). It's a close cousin of caffeine, but much milder, and it's found in everyday foods like cocoa and dark chocolate.
Before you get excited, no, your Moothpaste doesn't taste like chocolate. And no, this isn't permission to swap brushing for a Tim Tam.
Why Is Theobromine In Toothpaste?
Researchers have been looking at Theobromine for its potential role in oral care, particularly how it interacts with enamel. Laboratory studies suggest Theobromine can support remineralisation of early enamel lesions, and may influence how enamel crystals grow.6,7
The research is still developing, and most of it so far comes from lab studies rather than large clinical trials. We think it's a promising, food-derived ingredient that fits our philosophy, and it works alongside Hydroxyapatite rather than replacing it.
Theobromine + Hydroxyapatite: Better Together On Your Brush
Hydroxyapatite supplies the mineral that enamel is made of, while Theobromine is being studied for its potential to support enamel remineralisation. Together, they give your daily brush two Fluoride-free ingredients chosen with enamel care in mind.
Which Moothpaste Is Right For You?
The upgrade has landed across our adult Moothpaste range, so whichever flavour lives on your bathroom shelf, you'll get 10% Hydroxyapatite and Theobromine.
Peppermint Moothpaste: The Original, Upgraded
Our Peppermint Moothpaste is where it all started, and it's still the Herd favourite. It's got that crisp, fresh-mouth feeling you expect from a classic toothpaste, now with double the Hydroxyapatite and the addition of Theobromine.
Inside every tube:
- 10% vegan Calcium Hydroxyapatite to support remineralisation and protect enamel
- Theobromine, a Cacao-derived compound studied for its role in enamel care
- Xylitol to help stop bacteria and plaque sticking to teeth
- Coconut and Taurine-based cleansers for a thorough, gentle clean
- Coconut Oil instead of Glycerin, so nothing gets between your enamel and the good stuff
- Natural Stevia for a mild, pleasant taste
- No Fluoride, SLS, Alcohol, Saccharin or Titanium Dioxide
Sensitive Moothpaste: For Teeth That Wince
If cold drinks, ice cream or hot chips make you flinch, Sensitive Moothpaste is made for you. It has the same upgraded 10% Hydroxyapatite (nano-sized) and Theobromine formula, with Arginine for boosted sensitivity protection.
Arginine and Hydroxyapatite help seal tiny gaps in teeth to reduce sensitivity, while Hydroxyapatite and Theobromine help support your enamel.2,3
Watermelon & Mint Moothpaste: For The Whole Herd
Not everyone in the family is a peppermint person. Watermelon & Mint Moothpaste pairs a sweet, fruity flavour with a gentle hint of mint, so it's fresh without the fire. It's a great pick for teens, fussy brushers and anyone who wants brushing to feel like a treat, now with 10% Hydroxyapatite and Theobromine too!
What Hasn't Changed
Some things are too good to mess with. Your Moothpaste is still Fluoride-free, SLS-free and Glycerin-free, made with ingredients we're comfortable using on ourselves and our loved ones. We're also proudly Australian made and owned - right here on the Gold Coast, QLD. It's still the same smooth, non-gritty paste that won't scratch your enamel, because gentle and effective is just how we like it.
Final Thoughts
Good oral care has always come down to the basics: brushing twice a day for two minutes, spacing out snacks so teeth have time to recover and regular check-ups with your dentist. A great toothpaste makes those habits count.
Doubling our Hydroxyapatite to 10% and adding Theobromine is our answer to what you asked for, without giving up the gentle, thoughtful formula you trust. Whether you're Team Peppermint, need something kinder for Sensitive teeth or prefer the sweet side with Watermelon & Mint, every tube now brings the upgrade.
