YES! Our Shampoo and Conditioner are our most popular products, and they can also be used on pets without skin concerns or itchy problems as a natural way to take care of their skin. They can even be used in pets such as cats and guinea pigs, even hedgehogs.

Absolutely! All of our products are perfect for them because our formulas are made with low-irritant fragrances and only natural 'totally lickable' ingredients.

Guinea pigs have fur coats and these need to be brushed. If you have a gorgeous long-haired Peruvian kind, you will need to brush once or twice a day. If you have a much-shorter-haired breed, brushing will be less frequent. We have received some feedback from our Pack members saying that our Tame the Mane Grooming Cream is an awesome product to detangle and condition the fur of Guinea Pigs and Horses.

All our products are made of natural ingredients. Some of these ingredients can be a little tasty for them, so they may try to lick it off. There’s no problem with that since we only used lickable ingredients. It’s better to allow the product to penetrate the skin, especially the balms such as the Irritable Skin Balm and the Crusty Nose, Itchy Toes Butter Balm, but you can also reapply as many times as you want since, once again, we only used natural ingredients.

We use lickable ingredients because pets lick everything. What goes onto your pet's coat can eventually get ingested. That is why we only use ingredients with a high safety rating when ingested by animals. We don't use Parabens or Benzoates to preserve our products (we have an organically approved preservation system) and we don't use pesticides like pyrethrins in our Shampoo. We urge all owners to check all of the ingredients in all pet shampoos.

We recommend bathing your pet every two weeks to keep your pet clean. If your pet is a little smelly between baths, Ruff to Fluff Dry Shampoo is a convenient way to freshen up your pet without a full wash.

Dr Zoo products are not tested on animals. We rely on the judgment of pharmacological, toxicological and medical experts. We use non-animal alternative test methods as well as the safety histories of formulations and ingredients to determine product safety.

All products need preservatives to keep them free of bacteria. The paraben family of preservatives (methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben) are the most commonly used preservative and are well known to cause skin irritation. All Dr Zoo products are free from paraben preservatives and free from Phenoxyethanol, which is a Paraben and Formaldehyde free preservative. We instead use our own NATURAL PRESERVATIVE made from Hops Extract.

Some pet parents think that if their pet is not itchy or they’re not sensitive, they don’t need to use natural shampoo or products made with natural ingredients. Itchy or not, a natural bath is the best way to keep your pet’s skin healthy. Why? There are a few reasons. First, as with us, our pets only get one skin, which is why we need to care for and protect it as best we can. That’s why it is better to take a natural approach to pet care and use only natural and effective ingredients. We need to look for products that are actually good for their skin and overall health, rather than harmful and damaging. You wouldn’t believe how many harmful ingredients can be found in human and pet products. The majority of grooming products on the market contain synthetic fragrances and sulphates which can be highly irritating and can often cause skin conditions and problems such as dermatitis, allergies, itching, redness & irritated skin. We believe in the natural and safe care of pets. That means we only use natural ingredients that we know are good when ingested. If you could lick 80% of your body you would like to have totally lickable ingredients, right?

Natural Conditioners can help with a dry coat and are often left in so the fur can absorb the nourishing ingredients. Conditioners or Grooming Creams can also be applied in between baths if your dog is getting a little smelly and you want to give them a quick refreshment. We do recommend staying away from Silicone-based ingredients can build up on the fur over time and cause fur to feel limp and rough. Silicone can also make their skin itchy and sensitive. For our Conditioner ad Grooming Cream, we use Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil and Pro-Vitamin B5 for a natural shiny coat. Our Natural Nourishing Conditioner is specially formulated with natural, edible oils that both moisturise the skin and condition the coat.

Groom your pet regularly. You should brush your pet every few days, regardless of long or short hair. Long-haired dog breeds — such as Irish setters, border collies, shelties and Pomeranians — may need to be brushed twice a week. Cats also need brushing sessions. Aim for at least weekly brushing sessions. Take your time to untangle any knots and always brush with the lie of the fur to distribute the natural oils through the hair and use a comb to get rid of tangles.

Some sources claim that Lemongrass Oil is toxic to cats when ingested in large amounts, but our Outdoor Spray is recommended to be used topically. If you feel uneasy about topically using a small amount of Lemongrass on your pet, we recommend refraining from using the Outdoor Spray.
